Gate 5 Sausalito 1969

Gate 5 Sausalito 1969. The boat community where I lived “on the hook” in a 42 foot WW II landing craft outfitted with a nice queen sized bed, galley, and pot belly stove, out in Richardson Bay in 1971. Otis Redding wrote “Dock of the Bay” here. Shel Silverstien had a great tricked out boat where Dr. Hook would rehearse. The Madonna barge is in the background. To the right is the Charles Van Dam. The last paddle wheel ferry boat, run up on the mudflats and became home to many strange characters. In the fore ground was Alan Watt’s house boat. Home to many literary shakers and movers.
